“What food group does couscous fit into and how much of it should you eat?”

December 3, 2014 by Heniti Buick Leave a Comment

Couscous is made from semolina, a product of durum wheat, so it fits into the grains and cereals group along with bread, pasta, rice and other grain-based products. As a general guide, ½ a cup of cooked grains is equal to one serving from the grains and cereals group. The recommended number of serves per day from this group will depend on factors such as your age, height, gender and life stage. Visit the Eat for Health page to find out more about the dietary guidelines www.eatforhealth.gov.au. Remember that at meal times, it’s recommended you balance out foods from the grains and cereals group with plenty of non-starchy veggies and a lean protein source.
