Eggs are a nutritious and tasty food that provides your body with all the amino acids needed to build the different proteins your body uses each day. The current advice for pregnant women is that it is safe to eat eggs, but make sure the egg is thoroughly cooked. Raw egg may contain salmonella, a class of bacteria which can cause vomiting, stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhoea and headaches. In severe cases, salmonella infection has led to miscarriage. Other foods which may contain salmonella include raw or partially cooked meat and seafood, and fruits and vegetables which have been contaminated (usually due to poor hand hygiene).
