“My son is 7 years old and eats a lot of fruit, like 4 apples a day. I’m just wondering is this bad for him?”

April 9, 2014 by Heniti Buick Leave a Comment

Many parents struggle with getting their kids to eat fruit so it’s great if your son likes to eat fruit. Although fruit is healthy for us, even having too much of healthy foods can turn into an unhealthy habit. Having too much of one food group may mean you’re not getting enough of another. For boys your son’s age it is recommended they have 1 ½ serves of fruit per day so try to limit him to no more than two serves; a serve is equal to 1 medium piece eg. an apple, 2 small pieces eg. plums, or 1 cup of fruit salad.

The other important thing to consider is encouraging your son to eat a variety of fruit, not just apples. Different fruits give us a different mix of nutrients so having a variety of fruit over the week ensures we get the proper balance of nutrients that we need to be healthy.
