As a general rule of thumb I tell people that the grainier and browner the bread, the better is it for us. This is not to say that white bread is unhealthy though; white bread is fine if wholegrain or wholemeal is unavailable or you do not like the taste, but you can make a healthy choice by choosing a white bread that is high in fibre. The many varieties of grainy and brown breads give us a different mix of nutrients so I advise my clients to change up the type of bread they buy week to week. For example, you could buy soy & linseed loaf one week then a light rye loaf the next.
